Trails and Waterways have created a new "Rocker" patch which fits neatly under our Genesee Valley ADK Chapter patch. The patch, which says ADK LEADER, recognizes our outings' leaders and replaces the "chits" for the bookstore that expired last June. We have developed a 12-point system for earning the "rocker." For Trails you receive 4 points for an overnight or longer trip and 2 points for day hikes. For Waterways an overnight or longer trip earns 4 points, a full day trip 2, and a short day paddle or an evening paddle 1 point. Trails and Waterways have both decided to make points for leading trips retroactive to June 1, 2000, when the chits expired. Trails Committee records for day hikes are a little sketchy, so if you led one, don't be bashful, please contact Mary Norman at or Jim Luening at And I know we'll be getting tons of E-mail and phone calls about all those trips you want to lead to rack up your points!
